LOGANS BEACH WHALE NURSERY:

One of Australia's most popular whale watching areas. The annual return of the Southern Right Whales have Logans Beach buzzing during the months from mid June to late September as the beach area becomes a whale nursery. Southern Right Whale mothers and their young thrill watchers as they frolic only metres from shore and visitors are provided with a specially constructed whale viewing platform and interpretive centre. Southern Right Whales have been visiting the warmer waters around southern Australia for hundreds of years where they were hunted to near extinction, but since whaling was outlawed in 1935, numbers have been slowly increasing. If you have not been to see the whales, then plan your next holiday now, it's a sight and experience that will thrill.

LAKE PERTOBE ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND:

You can spend hours enjoying the tranquil surrounds at one of Warrnambool's most popular recreational spots. Lake Pertobe Adventure Playground is ideal for a picnic with acres of lawn area, playground equipment, a maze, flying fox and lake. Take a ride on the paddle boats or a relaxing canoe ride taking in the the birdlife who make the lake's many islands their home. Lake Pertobe also offers a walking track around the lake itself where many of the birdlife can be viewed from specially placed 'bird hides' around the lakes edge. During the summer period a carnival operates nightly just opposite the lake area with amusement rides and side shows.

A 10 minute drive west of Warrnambool, Tower Hill has two dormant volcanos surrounded by birdlife rich marshes nestled inside a larger crater.
